Mindset reminders

My kitchen cabinet, the place where I turn to make myself a cup of tea or a latte. Seeking a moment of quiet, a bit of a break. This is also the place where I post my mindset reminders. When my reality seems out of control, a comforting warm drink doesn’t fully address the turmoil within me. The global pandemic, an imminent run to the emergency room with one of the little ones -which I wished we could skip this time, tensions which don’t have anything much to do with me, but are there nevertheless.

So often, I figured that once the latest crisis had become manageable, life would finally start as I’d like it, as I’d pictured it, as I’d hoped for it to be.

Yet, as it turns out, new challenges keep coming for all of us. When peace of mind hinges on all being calm around us, it is hardly ever there. And when it is there, that peace is rather vulnerable.

So the little notes on my kitchen cabinet door, are my reminders. Reminders that I always have a choice about my mindset. They point to treasures; joy, wisdom, faithfulness, self-control. A peace that surpasses understanding. A perspective beyond my generation.

-Holding on to truth, hope, and faith,

provides a place of refuge-

These notes ultimately inspired me to paint courtyard gardens. Quiet, beautiful spaces despite all that is going on in the bigger picture. Gardens protected on every side. Holding on to truth, hope, and life, provides a place of refuge. A place of peace which is available regardless of any reality we find ourselves in.
